MISSION STATEMENT

The Centre aims to build a high quality capacity and critical mass of indigenous Space Scientists/ Educators in English speaking African countries for the development and application of Space Science & Technology for Sustainable National & Regional Development.

Thus, the Centre plans to achieve this by developing skills and knowledge in four prime areas of Space Science Technology: Remote Sensing/ GIS; Satellite Meteorology & Global Climate; Satellite Communication and Basic Space & Atmospheric Science.

This may be expanded to include skills and knowledge development in Space Law and Global Navigation Satellite Systems.

VISION

Human Resources Development and Public Awareness in the African Region of the benefits and Applications of Space Science & Technology for the sustainable development of the region and inprovement on the quality of life of the people, through rigorous education/ training and outreach programmes thereby empowering and informing the people on Space for Development.

MANDATE

  1. The development of skills and knowledge of university educators, environmental research scientists in the four principal areas of Remote Sensing, Satellite Meteorology  Applications, Satellite Communication and Basic Space and Atmospheric Science and Technology.
  2. Educators in the development of environmental and atmospheric sciences curricula that can be used to advance the knowledge of the scholars.
  3. Research scientists and project personnel in preparing the space-derived information for presentation to the policy and decision makers in charge of national and regional development programmes.
  4. Regional and International cooperation in space science and technology programmes.
